On Thursday 28th September 2023, CFH novice and expert bakers came together to host Macmillan Coffee Morning.
From Victoria sponges and cupcakes to chocolate brownies, Rocky Road, cookies and cheesecake, CFH employees upped their game and created a range of sweet treats that were enjoyed by all.
Collectively, the three sites raised over £150 for the charity, with everyone overindulging in cake throughout the day. As always there were requests for some CFH favourites including Malteser cake and Lemon Drizzle, but at the end of the day, every cake was ‘scone’ (though we didn’t have any of these!).
One of the most recognisable charities in The UK, having been founded in 1911 as ‘The Society For The Prevention And Relief Of Cancer’, Macmillan provide specialist health care, information and financial support to those affected by cancer. Striving to help those affected by all forms of cancer, the charity organisation also look at the social, emotional and practical impact cancer can have, and even campaign for better cancer care.
As is the case with many charities, the success of the organisation simply would not be possible without the help of countless volunteers up and down the country. Selflessly working to organise events, raise funds door-to-door and ensure there’s awareness of the services Macmillan provide, volunteers are the very backbone of Macmillan Cancer Support.
We’re always keen to raise money for local and national charities when the opportunity arises, be it through sponsored events or hosting our own coffee mornings and bake sales. Some of the other charity events we regularly take part in include the Bath Half Marathon, and Julian House Circuit Of Bath Walk, to support the many people experiencing homelessness and escaping domestic abuse across the South West.
A recurring event every year, the Macmillan coffee morning helps raise money to support those living with or impacted by cancer. As well as support the fantastic work of Macmillan nurses, support lines and financial advisors.
The first Macmillan coffee morning was hosted in 1990 and has since raised over £290 million for the charity. You can find out more about the coffee morning here or you can find out more about the Macmillan cancer support here.
This was our first bake sale since COVID-19 and was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. Thanks to everyone who got involved from baking to eating and for helping raise money for a brilliant cause.
